Whitefish Lake (18031000) is located near Crosslake, Minnesota, in Crow Wing County. It is the third largest lake in the Brainerd Lakes area with 7,370 acres of surface area and a maximum depth of 138 feet. Whitefish Lake is part of the 14,000 acre Whitefish chain (WFC) of 14 lakes that include Arrowhead Lake, Bertha Lake, Big Trout Lake, Clamshell Lake, Cross Lake, Daggett Lake, Hen Lake, Island Lake, Loon Lake, Lower Hay Lake, Pine, Rush Lake, and Upper and Lower Whitefish.
The US Army Corps of Engineers maintains three concrete public access locations for Whitefish Lake, located on north shore of Clamshell Lake, on the east shore of Crosslake, and on the east shore of Big Trout Lake. The DNR maintains a concrete public access locations on the southwest end of Cross Lake, on the south shore of Lower Hay Lake, and south of the Pine River inlet on the west shore. There is also a County gravel public access to Whitefish on the south shore of Pig Lake.

The Byway is a 54 mile route that is available for anyone in the Whitefish Lake Area. People are welcome to walk, bike, hike, or run on one of the many paved trails that make up the Byway. Pine River also has popular weekly duck races, a Grower's Market every Friday during the summer months, along with a Flea Market. The Pine River flows through the city of Pine River and is a state designated canoe route. The Pine River Chamber Information Center has Paul Bunyan's baby boots and other artifacts.
Crosslake hosts exciting community celebrations such as Winterfest, the St. Patrick's Day parade, and Celebrate Crosslake Days. These events are welcome for all tourists and visitors to enjoy. There is also a summer outdoor music series held at the Crosslake Town Square that can be fun for all age groups.
